FILMS:

THE GUYS starring Academy Award™ nominee Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters, Working Girl) and Tony and Emmy Award-winner Anthony LaPaglia (star of the hit CBS drama Without A Trace).   An adaptation from the stage play by Anne Nelson, THE GUYS is a powerfully moving and unexpectedly humorous film about a New York City journalist (Weaver) who is called upon to help a fire captain (LaPaglia) write a series of eulogies for the men he lost at the World Trade Center.  As the fireman begins to open up and work through his grief, the two form an unexpected bonds and we rediscover the quiet heroism that informs all of our daily lives.

Panel Discussion after:  with Fort Lauderdale City Manager George Grestas who was in New York at the time the airplanes hit the Twin Towers, Dr. Larry Thompson of First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, and Tommy Melanges, a Junior at St. Thomas Acquinas High School in Broward County who was 11 years old at the time of 9/11/2001, plus representatives of the Broward County Schools and the Muslim Community.

Metro Pictures: Part 2

You may be wondering if this show has to deal with the Metro Golden Mayer Production Company…no.  Metro Pictures “refers to snapshots of the city” and that the works “define, interpret and/or reject the city.”  This show is wide open to interpretation and includes stuff like a set of musical vests that “only when two participants wear them…do the sculptures emit sound.”  The exhibit is on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art until September 17th.  The Museum is located at 770 NE 125th Street in North Miami.  You can either call 305*893-6211 or visit them on the web at www.mocanomi.org for further information.
