and spirited exhibit of works by more than 30
contemporary Mexican artists. Some of the artists are
schooled, but many are self-taught, such as the factory
workers who, under the guidance of photojournalist
Adrian Caldera, have learned to fashion pinhole cameras
from boxes and other found objects. This exhibit runs
through June 11th.
The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is located at
1650 Harrison Street, Hollywood. For more information

American
Embassies Abroad
Elizabeth Gill Lui, author of Building Diplomacy:
The Architecture of American Embassies will be on
hand at Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave, in Coral Gables
Tuesday, May 30th at 8pm. The book
shows how the power of architecture imparts the message
of democracy. Ms. Lui, an architectural photographer,
traveled around the world and documented the beauty and
uniqueness of 43 US embassies. She feels that even
though they are sometimes not very visible, in many
ways, is our formal face to the world. Our first
embassy was in Morocco and is from 1789 and was a gift
from Sultan Moulay Suliman and now there are 186 such
buildings, all different due to politics, style, time,
and mainly our relationship with that country.
