The Stonewall
Library & Archives and BlackOut Fest proudly present a
screening of "Strange Fruit" @ 7PM at the Stonewall
Library & Archives, 1717 N. Andrews Ave. (Inside the GLCC),
Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Suggested donation is $5.00
Set in the backwoods of Louisiana, STRANGE FRUIT is a
dramatic thriller directed by Kyle Schickner. The story
centers on the investigation of a hate-crime murder
committed against a young black gay man. William Boyle, a
prominent openly gay New York attorney, who happens to be a
childhood friend of the victim, is called back to Louisiana
to help solve the gruesome homicide. Boyle agrees to return
to his hometown, but is soon caught in a complex web of
circumstances and cover-ups that jeopardize his career and
put his life in danger. Thwarted in his efforts both by
racism from outside the African-American community, and
homophobia from within, Boyle faces mounting obstacles. In
order to solve the mystery and stay alive, he must
eventually face the personal demons he thought he had left
behind. |

Metro
Pictures: Part 2
You
may be wondering if this show has to deal with the Metro
Golden Mayer Production Company…no. Metro Pictures
“refers to snapshots of the city” and that the works
“define, interpret and/or reject the city.” This show
is wide open to interpretation and includes stuff like a
set of musical vests that “only when two participants
wear them…do the sculptures emit sound.” The exhibit is
on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art until
September 17th. The Museum is located at 770
NE 125th Street in North Miami. You can
either call 305*893-6211 or visit them on the web at
www.mocanomi.org for further information.
