After thrilling audiences all over
the world for more than a decade,
Tango Pasión and the 2003 Latin
Grammy Award winning Sexteto Mayor
Orchestra, make their way to the
Broward Center. Tango Pasión is the
exhilarating Argentine dance musical
including 25 singers, musicians, and
dancers that burn up the floor with
their passionate variations of the
tango. This dazzling dance shows the
eternal battleground between a man
and a woman, it is the definitive
act of love. Sensuous, sultry, and
seductive the couples breathe as
one, darting in and around each
other with the threat of a snake's
tongue. The powerful Sexteto Mayor
Orchestra makes you sway in your
seat, daring you to tango, too. Once
restricted to the brothels and
smokey tango bars of Buenos Aires,
Tango Pasión immortalizes the
tango's hot beginnings early last
century and follows the dance's
journey to Paris and beyond. |

One of the dance world's most
visually stunning companies, Momix
presents Lunar Sea, its 77th
creation and Momix at its most
"Momixic". Lunar Sea is composed of
a series of wonderfully effective
visual vignettes, incisively
performed and melded together with
an eclectic score for an 85-minute
continuum of light, shadow and
illusion. At times the scene seems a
giant Rorschach test, while dancers
in fluorescent costumes float across
the stage like mermaids, or suggest
horrifying crablike carnivores.
Choreographer Moses Pendleton's
projections and lighting by turn
psychedelic and oscillating have an
eerie beauty. After its first
quarter century, Momix remains a
great introduction to dance for
people who are not sure whether
dance is for them, and a treat for
dance fans of any age. |
