Passion! Betrayal! Retribution! All of this and more are at the heart of one of the world's most famous love stories. Saint-Saens' operatic masterpiece of the Old Testament story provides a sweeping, atmospheric musical tableaux of the ancient middle east, and contains some of opera's most famous music, including Dalila's great seduction scene. Samson succumbs and gives and gives up the secret of his great strength. Newly shorn, he is taken captive by the Philistines and blinded, but when he is brought into a celebration where the Philistines and Delila mock him, he prays for strength one last time.
