Georgia O'Keeffe: Circling Around Abstraction

February 10 through May 6, 2007

Organized by the Norton Museum of Art, Georgia O'Keeffe:  Circling Around Abstraction is the first exhibition to highlight this renowned American painter's individual approach to the issue of abstraction, a stylistic strategy which in many ways preoccupied artists throughout the 20th century.

The exhibition brings together fifty-one of O'Keeffe's works to illuminate the various and evolving ways she used circular forms and motifs as the means whereby she organized, simplified, and even energized her compositions.

Both the exhibition and its catalogue, with every work illustrated in color, will enhance both popular appreciation and scholarly understanding of the artist's significant contribution to the development of American modernism.

After Striking Big They’re Back

You would think that young designers Evan Davis and Tony Shellman would take the $114M they received from Liz Claiborne for their Enyce label and run, but nope!  They have decided to reinvent themselves and create another company—Parish.  This is an urban label for young men infused with bold graphics and the freedom of California surf wear.  Did you know that today, hip-hop inspired clothing is a $2.6B industry?  With a lot of the designer being performing artists themselves it is hard to crack into the realm of fashion.  Such artists as P.Diddy, Jay-Z, and remember The Snoop Dog Collection?  Well, Parish is the one for you.  Named for the idea of a community, they want to offer such things as jeans trimmed with snakeskin, seersucker pockets, grommets in the shape of mini-microphones, let alone kaleidoscope prints on tee shirts and hoodies.  They describe their collection as Somewhere between crazy and wearable and are featured at eight stores of the Up Against the Wall chain.
