One of
America’s most famous bedrooms just received a
makeover. The infamous Lincoln Bedroom of The
White House just received a refurbishing that includes
historical drawings, photos, and documents that brings
to life the Victorian era mystique. The furniture has
remained the same, so don’t fret that the historical
rosewood bed personally purchased by Mary Todd Lincoln,
has remained intact. Cleaned, but intact. Heading up
the historical renovation was First Lady Laura Bush,
who wanted to make the room more representative o the
time that the Lincolns occupied it. Taking her love of
history and houses, and needing to do something for
legacy, she decided to tackle the bedroom and sitting
room at her project. Since the nationally televised
personal tour by then First Lady Jackie Kennedy in 1962,
every administration has done something to improve this
207 year-old national museum. This project cost
$530,000 and was paid for by the nonprofit White House
Historical Association. |
