It’s Not a Prada
It’s not a Prada—claim officials at the
Vatican. After much speculation over Pope Benedict
XVI’s red shoes as being a gift from out Lady of
Perpetual Fashion—Saint Prada, officials confirm they
are not. What is causing such a ruckus? Simply
put…red shoes. These fire-engine red loafers are said
to be a symbol of the blood of Christian Martyrs and the
Holy Spirit and have been used in hats and capes for
years but someone leaked misinformation and they are
really hand made by a local cobbler. Funny thing,
Versace capitalized on this fashion cross-over and last
season featured a complete show in Milan with models
parading around as Priests. |

Stay in an Austrian Drain
Tube
People are creative, and sometimes using
unconventional things really sparks my
creativity. Well, designer Andreas
Strauss decided to create not only art
but function as well into his latest
project—using sections of drain tubes as
individual hotel room pods. By using
large sections of concrete drainage pies
and outfitting them as individual
sleeping spaces, along the lines of
bungalos, this is art and useful for
busy travelers. Called Pipe Pods,
they are spread out throughout a park
along the
Danube in
Austria’s Ottensheim Nearlinz Park.
Interested people book online at
www.adamevehotels.com and receive
door codes for their specific pod.
Within the space is a bed with blankets
and linen, sleeping bags, table lamps,
and ports for recharging your electrical
devices. There are more projects
planned for the future with other cities
so be on the lookout for a pod near you! |

Auction House Wants Some
Live Ones
Auction houses would like to move and capture the market on
the live artists. What better way to do
that than to buy a gallery? Last week,
famed auction house Christie’s
announced that it had bought Haunch
of Venison, a gallery founded in
London five years ago that also have
spaces in
Zurich and Berlin.
The gallery handles artists that are
alive such as: Bill Viola, Keith
Tyson, Richard Long, and Jorge
Pardo. Christie’s now plans to open
a branch of Haunch of Venison in New
York and will be right around the corner
from the NY Christie’s headquarters.
Even though it will be run as a wholly
owned subsidiary of Christie’s and as a
separate business, there will be strict
rules about gallery bidding at its sales
yet some still think that the lines of
ethics have become completely blurred.
