Fort Lauderdale Becomes UNCOMMON
For
those of you who love the local galleries and museums,
here is the latest newcomer to the scene—The UNCOMMON
Gallery. Owned by Michael D. Colanero, they had their
Fort Lauderdale Grand Opening last month, marking their
move from their previous Pompano Beach location. They
were known for hosting a Gallery Night on the second
Fridays of every month, and plans are underway for
continuing that tradition. Featured right now is an
artist I love and adore, Harmony Jones. She was the
last featured artist at New Moon Café’s Wine & Art
Night, and I interviewed her and got to know the artist
behind the canvas. The UNCOMMON Gallery is located at
2713 East Commercial Blvd in Fort Lauderdale and can be
found at
www.uncommonstock.net or at

Sylvester
ArtsUnited
is happy to announce the Artist of the Month for the
Stonewall Library and Archives is Steven Sylvester.
Steven, who often played in mud puddles as a child
hasn’t changed much as an adult—mud is still his medium

requires a balance between delicate finessing and
outright mud wrestling with a creative result as the
goal. There will be an Opening Reception for him at
6:30 pm on Monday, November 6th at the
Stonewall Library and Archives, which is located at 1717
N Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale or by calling them

The
Jobsite Theater presents The Complete Works
of Shakespeare (abridged)
November 10 - 12, 2006
Shimberg Playhouse
Jobsite has packed their trunks with
everything from skulls to skirts and daggers
to dinosaurs. Having shrunk Will's wit and
wisdom into manageable morsels of madness
they tear around the stage in tights and
trainers. It's time to dust down your
doublets, sort out your singlets and join
Jobsite on a riotous romp through all 37 of
Shakespeare's plays.
This production, originally produced by
Jobsite in March of 2001, played to capacity
crowds in the Shimberg Playhouse for a
three-week run and has since been brought
back twice for one-night command
performances – both which have sold out. It
was named a Top 10 production of 2001 by
both Weekly Planet and The Tampa Tribune and
continues to be one of Jobsite’s most
memorable and popular productions.

November 14 -

Carol Morsani Hall
If you don't want to see this
show because it's "ONE OF THE
LIVELIEST, FUNNIEST, BEST-PERFORMED
MUSICALS IN YEARS!" (New York Post),
then see it because the money helps
pay for our grandmother's cosmetic
surgery. Set on the glorious,
glamorous Riviera, DIRTY ROTTEN
SCOUNDRELS is a delicious comedy
that follows two con artists as they
take on the lifestyles of the rich
and shameless – and end up with a
lot more than they bargain for.

Raw,
polished, and sleek. Some have commented on Nima
Behnoud’s creations. Nima, a former Fashion
Institute of Technology student in New York, took a
class project and is starting a company. The project:
Design a shirt that says something about your life.
Not too short of an order, especially if your father is
back in Iran and is in and out of jail constantly for
being a prominent journalist and protested against the
country’s censorship of political reform. With Persian
calligraphy he wrote out the symbols for “Love” in
Farsi. After realizing what he created, he handcrafted
more, with such things as famous Iranian architecture,
poetic verses, and other things directly related to his
homeland. Well, as luck would have it, his clothes
found their way into many of the clubs in Manhattan and
were spotted by the Editor of Maxim—to which he
put his shirts on last years Must Have list. Now with a
website,
www.nimany.com, you too can have one of his
distinctive shirt. |

More RED Than Ever |
|
Over
the past couple of weeks I posted how Gap Inc. and other
companies have been doing their part to help out HIV
infected people of the sub-Saharan Africa, and that U2
front man Bono and Bobby Shriver actually founded the
RED campaign and launched it on October 13th.
Well, other companies have realized how important this
cause is, how simple it is to contribute, and how by
uniting under one color, we can make a difference
One
more thing I came across while on their official website,
American Express has joined the team and is featuring
their RED Card. They also have some perks for the RED
Card: REDpass: a program where every three months on
lucky card member will have the chance to do something
extraordinary—something that money alone cannot
achieve. REDdeals: will give you access to handpicked
offers and events, and REDmoney: will give the 1% to
the Global Fund. Once again, all of these products go
to and actually help make a difference in Africa. For
further information about the Global Fund and (RED)

World Opera News
This past Wednesday, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires,
Argentina, closed as part of a $25M restoration project
despite concerns that the majestic acoustics that
attracted the A-List celebrities might suffer
damages. The restorers must avoid irreparable damage to
the famed acoustics and according to architect Sonia
Terreno, Director of Renovations, “…the preservation of
the acoustics is paramount.” The Tearo Colón is a
horseshoe-shaped 2,478-seat auditorium with renovated
acoustic tiles, wooden stage, and balconies—all of which
is slated to reopen in May 2008 to Verdi’s Aïda,
marking the centennial of the house. For more
