The
Jobsite Theater presents The Complete Works
of Shakespeare (abridged)
November 10 - 12, 2006
Shimberg Playhouse
Jobsite has packed their trunks with
everything from skulls to skirts and daggers
to dinosaurs. Having shrunk Will's wit and
wisdom into manageable morsels of madness
they tear around the stage in tights and
trainers. It's time to dust down your
doublets, sort out your singlets and join
Jobsite on a riotous romp through all 37 of
Shakespeare's plays.
This production, originally produced by
Jobsite in March of 2001, played to capacity
crowds in the Shimberg Playhouse for a
three-week run and has since been brought
back twice for one-night command
performances – both which have sold out. It
was named a Top 10 production of 2001 by
both Weekly Planet and The Tampa Tribune and
continues to be one of Jobsite’s most
memorable and popular productions.

Two Rooms, Until Nov 5th
Two Rooms
is the quite, intense story of Michael Wells, College
Professor, who is kidnapped off a Beirut street and held
in dark cellars for three years while his wife, Lainie,
appeals through the government and media for his
release. At home, she has turned his study into a Quiet
Zone where the playwright allows the couple to
emotionally communicate, or at least evoke one another.
The two rooms, the prison cellar and empty study,
frequently blend together. This is a tale of a
political hostage and the wife left behind. This marks
the launch of The Promethean Theatre Company’s Third
Season, the first with a partnership with Nova
Southeastern University. The play is in its final
performances, through this Sunday, November 5th,
at the Mailman Theatre in the Mailman Administrative
Building, 2nd Floor at Nova Southeastern
University. The University is located at 3301 College
Avenue in Davie and tickets can be purchased at

More RED Than Ever!
Over
the past couple of weeks I posted how Gap Inc. and other
companies have been doing their part to help out HIV
infected people of the sub-Saharan Africa, and that U2
front man Bono and Bobby Shriver actually founded the
RED campaign and launched it on October 13th.
Well, other companies have realized how important this
cause is, how simple it is to contribute, and how by
uniting under one color, they can make a difference
I
came across another Red Product while in the mall, Apple
introduced their RED iPod and can be purchased online at
www.apple.com or at an Apple Store.
Once
again, all of these products go to and actually help
make a difference in Africa. When you buy an iPod nano
(PRODUCT) RED, it matters even more because $10 from
every one sold goes directly to the Global Fund. For

Halloween Costume
This
week marked the Gay High Holly Day, Halloween—where
everyone can be someone or something else—just for one
night. The perks of living with a female illusionist
entertain extraordinaire is that I have: access to hair
pieces and wigs, a sewing machine and serger in our
living room for quick alterations and costume making,
and of course the never-ending supply of sequins,
glitter, and cementing hair spray. With that being
said, I know how things are made what things take time,
and how to truly appreciate hard work. I would
have to say, I like it when people take things and put
their own personal spin on already existing things. One
friend, (whom will remain nameless and “open-ended”)
took one of Fort Lauderdale’s Most Popular Male
Costume The Prisoner, and added lettering and
alluded to him being a Prison Bitch and to do naughty
things to him. Driving all around Wilton Manors and
along Las Olas, The Prisoner would have to be #1 most
popular, with The Pimp coming in a close Second. Also,
as a reminder for next year, post Halloween events leads
to a field day of drunken disrobing where I scored, in
our parking lot, a pair of size 12 black stiletto
pirate-esque boots! |

some of the items were donated to Gay and Lesbian
Archives across the nation. Dr. Kameny’s personal
papers are destined for the Manuscript Division of the

Venue of the Future |
Last week, the Coca-Cola Co. said that it would donate
two and half acres of land near the downtown Atlanta
tourist district for a proposed Civil Rights Museum.
This museum would have, among other exhibits, the papers
and personal artifacts of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. This is in the
beginning
stages, and similar projects in other cities have cost
between $50 and $100 million. The land alone is valued
at $8 to $11 million and is in the area where the new
aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola museum is, let alone
CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park. The museum
would join others across the country that is dedicated
to Black History and culture, and to preserving major
sites of the Civil Rights Movement. |

USS
Intrepid
Gets a Makeover
The famed WWII, Korean, and
Vietnam veteran carrier, the USS Intrepid, which
has been homeported as a semi-floating museum in New
York Harbor, will be escorted along the Hudson River to
the Bayonne Marine Terminal in New Jersey. The Intrepid has become a top tourist destination
drawing in over 700,000 visitors a year where military
and naval traditions are all but gone or
invisible—except for Fleet Week. Saved from a scrap
yard, the Intrepid was turned into a museum in 1982 and
has participated in every major battle during the last
two years of the war in the Pacific for WWII (surviving
five Japanese kamikaze suicide attacks and loosing 270
crew members), served both in the Korean and Vietnam
Wars, and was a recovery ship for NASA astronauts. The
plan is that on November 6th, there will be a
grand ceremony featuring speeches, patriotic music, a
Navy flyover before it will be escorted down the
Hudson past the World Trade Center site, Ellis Island,
and the Statue of Liberty. While in dry dock, the pier
will also receive a makeover for their homecoming in
November 2008. For further information, go to
www.intrepidmuseum.org. |
