Amy Sedaris Likes You!
Famed
physical comedian Amy Sedaris, known for her
portrayal of an over-the-hill ex-junkie in Comedy
Central’s Strangers With Candy, has just
published I Like You: Hospitality Under the
Influence. This is a side-splitting guide to
throwing parties
will
actually help novice party-planners with helpful hints
and actual recipes. Her tips run the gamut from how to
properly freeze meatballs, the inebriated, how to have
fun with your guests, inappropriate introductions, and
things to avoid saying to the grieving. Her advice is
both practical and hilarious deadpan delight all
enhanced with kitschy illustrations and photos.
Amy will be appearing at ArtServe Saturday, November 4th,
so call 954*357-5954 for reservations and information.

William Rast’s Spring 2007 Hitting a High
Note
Did you know that William Rast is a fictitious name? Yes,
the fashion company founded in 2005 is none other than
Justin Timberlake and his childhood best friend Trace
Ayala’s
grandfather’s
names [William Bomar & John Rast]. The
boys, friends since childhood, both now 25, used to call
each other up to make sure that they were not wearing
the same thing. Both sets of parents are best friends
to boot, and they have no problems being friend and
business partners. Since being from
Memphis and now residents of LA, they wanted their label
to be a blend of city slick and southern
sophistication. Their philosophy—Great fit and great
quality IS great style.
Even though their current Fall/Winter 2006 Men’s Collection
is full of jeans, jackets, pullovers, and a gorgeous
velvet blazer for $310, their Spring 2007 Collection
debuted last week at LA’s Fashion Week. This collection
is “inspired by The Outsiders with two different
groups, the Greasers and Socs.” (Ayala) The show was
held at a night club called Social Hollywood and Justin
entertained at the after-party. For more information or
to order go to

Must Have, Hard Is In
I’m
talking about luggage! After watching Marie
Antoinette this week and keeping track of all
products and items that media sometimes spins, I
remembered one thing—the luggage! I thought to myself
that Louis Vuitton will definitely want to recreate
something similar…well, they have! All good designers
have at least one piece out this season: Prada, Dior,
Louis, and Ralph all have them. The best thing about
the hard case is that it keeps your clothes in place.
With straight edges and buckle-down interior straps,
your clothes will arrive just the way that you packed
them. These are not for week-plus treks but are for the
whimsical weekend getaways—the kind that your
grandparents owned and had stickers from various
destinations. These, nowadays are heirlooms and worthy
of the price tags. |

#1 Halloween Costume, Marie Takes the
Cake
Sine
the announcing and arrival of Sofia Coppola’s Marie
Antoinette, the most sought after costume this year
would be Marie or anything of the French Court. Costume
shops are reporting that women have been going crazy for
any over-the-top 18th Century French costume,
with Marie in mind. Some costumes run as much as $450
to buy and $200 per night to rent. Not only the dresses
are in demand—but the wigs as well! Some have gone so
far as to go to production supply companies for Broadway
and asking for authentic, original wigs! The best
advice, buy a wig and improvise! |

Others Companies Are
Seeing RED
Ok,
last week I posted a paragraph about how Gap Inc. was
doing their part to help out HIV infected people of the
sub-Saharan Africa, and that U2 front man Bono and Bobby
Shriver actually founded the RED campaign and launched
it on October 13th. Well, other companies
have realized how important this cause is, how
simple
it is to contribute, and how by uniting under one color,
we can make a difference. Motorola is now offering the
RED Motorazr phone for $199 and is available at
www.motorola.com, Converse is
spotlighting their Chuck Taylor All Star
canvas hi-tops and lo-tops in red at
www.converse.com, and finally, Emporio
Armani has the RED stainless steel and leather watch,
jeans sunglasses and shoes at
www.emporioarmani.com.
Once
again, all of these products go to and actually help
make a difference in
Africa. |

Monumental Military |
|
Some may know this, but I used to be a Yeoman Third Class
Petty Officer in the United States Navy. I take my love
of The United States very serious. Even if you do not
like the current government, the issues being dealt
with, or impending policies—it still beats living in a
country where women are treated worse than slaves,
children are required to go to school with bullet-proof
vests, and the elderly are taken off to the desert to
die. I watched Clint Eastwood’s Flags of our Fathers
and realized how much I still do love
America, as messed up as it is.
With that in mind, I thought I would like to point out some
recent additions to memorialize our forefathers who have
served and given their lives so we can sing Pink’s
Dear Mr. President.
Just recently, at
Fort
Lauderdale’s Esplanade Park, there is a new addition,
The Lone Sailor. This statue is a seven-foot-tall
bronze piece and is the ninth in a series by sculptor
Stanley Bleifeld that now stand in such cities around
the nation. The statue is two pieces, the Sailor and
his seabag and cleat, was brought to Broward by
philanthropist Patricia du Mont and the Fort Lauderdale
Navy League for $250,000.
On October 14th, President Bush spoke at the
dedication of the memorial for the Air Force that is
located at
Arlington, VA also the site of the Tomb Of the Unknown
Soldier. After 15 years of raising money and the three
spikes look like bent obelisks and jet streams from
fighter jets, trails off into the heavens. The site is
on the ridge next to Arlington National Cemetery and is
overlooking both the Pentagon and the nation’s capital.
The memorial arc is 17,000-ton metal spires that are 270
feet high and designed for its modern appeal and
reflection of the Air Force’s advanced technology. Up
until just recently, the Air Force was the only
branch of the military without a monument around the
capital.
Once again, this is a tribute, to memorialize our
forefathers with respect and dignity that they deserve.

Our Fathers click here. |
