is the President of The Hollywood Costume Designers
Guild and Academy Award nominated costume designer who
researched and is now able to
showcase more than 100 yrs of the most tantalizing
costumes and the characters they helped bring to life.
There
is a treasure trove of previously unreleased drawings
and sketches as well as insightful and entertaining
anecdotes to the costumers world. This book provided an
eye-popping, behind the scenes account
of evolution of costume design and its contribution to

Between The Pages
A Hint of Homosexuality
Imagine a time before Logo. Think of what it would have
been like not to have the option of going to an Alibi or
Rosie’s and picking up three or more gay publications.
For the time before Stonewall, most of
Middle America was in the closet. We all know
that “sex sells” and that there is always hidden agendas
and subconscious meanings in covert advertising, so why
not let it be gay? Within the pages of Bruce H.
Joffe’s book, A Hint of Homosexuality: Gay
and Homoerotic Imagery in American Print Advertising,
you will see such examples of themes and messages that
were almost explicitly gay or gay friendly—yet not
picked up on by hetero-America. He has a collection of
advertisements that date back to 1905 that would
definitely be a “Must See” among many gay historians.

Xlibris Publishing, go to

Van Gogh At The Morgan
Presently, at The Morgan Library and Museum, they have 19
letters that Vincent Van Gogh wrote to friends
and family. Painted with Words: Vincent Van Gogh’s
Letters to Emile Bernard has personal correspondence
from Van Gogh in the final years of his life. Alongside
them are the sketches and paintings they describe—drawn
from a dozen museums around the world and the letters
have been literally and unabashedly translated from the
French. When Van Gogh says f---ing, we say f----ing.—Curator
Jennifer Tonkovich. Also within the letters are
also the pigments he planned on using on the paintings.
Sadly, he ended his life only two years later in July
1890 after shooting himself in the chest. Did you know
that he only sold one painting in his lifetime? This
exhibit will run through January 6th at The

2008 Men on a Mission Calendar
How
did you feel about the movie Latter Days? Did you
know that more than 50,000 missionaries are currently
serving full-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, otherwise known as the Mormon Church?
Their two-year missions have taken them around the globe to
third-world countries to help the poor, feed the hungry,
teach English, build schools and homes and teach people
about Mormonism. Most are young men and women under the age
of 25, serving in nearly 350 missions throughout the world.
Missionaries pay their own expenses for their service, and
after two years of work, return to their home countries and
their ordinary lives. During their mission, they are
required to dedicate all of their time to missionary work
and are not allowed to read newspapers, listen to popular
music, surf the Internet or watch TV or movies. They can
only call home twice a year on Christmas and Mother's Day.
Along with the restrictions the missionaries face, all
Mormons are forbidden to drink alcohol, coffee or tea, smoke
cigarettes or have premarital sex. Sounds like fun—sign
me up! Well, to raise money for their cause, they
decided to come up with a calendar to help out their
expenses, and have gotten some very well needed attention.
Check out such boys as Kenneth, Brandon, Mathew, Dustin, and
Casey in some provocative solo scenes at
www.mormonsexposed.com. The calendar costs $14.99, and
Christmas is right around the corner!

If You're In That Part Of
Town
History in the Making
A reproduction of the minutes of trials against the Templars,
Processus Contra Templarios -- Papal Inquiry into the
Trial of the Templars is a massive work and much
more than a book -- with a $8,333 price tag. According to
Professor Barbara Frale, a medievalist at the Vatican’s
Secret Archives, she says that it is a milestone because it
is the first time that these documents are being released by
the Vatican, which gives a stamp of authority to the entire
project and nothing before this offered scholars original
documents of the trials of the Templars.
The epic comes in a soft leather case that includes a
large-format book including scholarly commentary,
reproductions of original parchments in Latin, and, to
tantalize Templar buffs—replicas of the wax seals used by
14th-century Inquisitors. There are only 799 numbered
copies made. One parchment measuring about half a meter
wide by some two meters long is so detailed that it includes
reproductions of stains and imperfections seen on the
originals.
The Templars, whose full name was Poor Fellow-Soldiers
of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, were founded
in 1119 by Knights sworn to protecting Christian pilgrims
visiting the Holy Land after the Crusaders captured
Jerusalem in 1099. They amassed enormous wealth and helped
finance wars of some European monarchs. Legends of their
hidden treasures, secret rituals, and power have figured
over the years in films and bestsellers such as The Da
Vinci Code. They have also been portrayed as
guardians of the legendary Holy Grail—the cup used by Christ
at the Last Supper before his crucifixion. The Vatican
expects most copies of the work to be bought up by
specialized libraries at top universities and by leading
medieval scholars.
Musical Notes
Within my mass amounts of emails in my In Box I came across
