Earth, Air, Fire, Water, October 10- 21,
2006
No, I am
not talking about the chant from The Craft—even
though it is one of my favorite movies, but a show
appearing at The Gallery of the Unknown Artist in
Hollywood. The show, titled Earth, Air, Fire, Water
features the photographic work of artist Rick
McCawley in his first gallery exhibition. His
exhibit is a vast collection of digitally composed
photographs that are categorized by element and each set
appear organic and are rich with movement. Combining
the images of nature and the urban environment mixed
with the human form he is able to craft dream-like
compositions and are noticeably influenced with color,
light, and texture to create “magical realism.” The
show will go from October 10th through the
21st and there will be an Opening
Reception for the artist on Saturday, October 14th
from 7 to 10pm.
The Gallery of the Unknown Artist is located at 116
South 20th Avenue in downtown Hollywood, FL.

Fashion File/Project Runway Reunited
and Conspiracy Theory
As
with past seasons, right before the finale, Bravo gives
us a chance to see how our favorite PR designers have
Carried On since leaving the show. Mixed among them
are the final four contestants that will be showing at
Olympus Fashion week this past September. As the show
progresses, you forget that this was actually taped
about nine months ago and the showing designers are
given six months to design their collection before the
show.
So,
with any Reunion show, I was anxious to find out who
changed their looks since leaving, who has things going
on, and what benefits or pitfalls being a Project Runway
designer has had on their individual lives. First, I
wanted so see HOW BIG LAURA
GOT! Oh dear Lord, I remember in one episode she mentioned she
was pregnant, then the next was the family episode where
she accidentally told her mother she was before
telling her husband! Well, its was nice to see that she
looked stunning in a short cocktail dress [big
surprise] and that Kayne lost more weight and looked
fabulous! But, the biggest shocker was Bradley
who stopped looking like a stoner Muppet and cleaned up
and looked actually cute—hopefully he now knows who
Cher is, or we can’t be friends. Also, like seasons before,
there was still conflict, and, for the first time ever,
a Conspiracy Theory was put into motion over Keith’s
dismissal over having CONTRIBAND. He claims that the
producers took the said books away but then gave them
back after the show began only to be kicked off for
them. Hmmmm….the question is, are you still the
laughing stock of your friends?
This
week is the first half of a two-part Season Finale in
which we will see the shows by: Uli, Laura, Jeffrey,
and Michael. I am sad to see anyone lose, but my money
is on Jeffrey or Laura. Hopefully her water won’t break
during the show! Also, for the record, I would like to
say that I wish that the producers had done something
with Nina Garcia and Elle magazine earlier in a
previous season. The last episode featured the designers
going and meeting with her in her office and having a
challenge sponsored by Elle. This was an
excellent opportunity for us, the viewers, to get to
know Nina and I only wished that they had done this
earlier. In Season One, they went and met Michael Coors
in his studio…
I
don’t know if you have heard, but there is a Project
Runway Party every Wednesday in the Dana
Manchester Room at Alibi and was part of the
crowd. I advise arriving early, grab a cocktail
and be ready to hoot and holler! Trust me when I say
all types showed up, Muscle GODS, Bears, fierce and
fabulous—all were accounted for! Why sit home alone? |

Met
Gets Medieval
The
Metropolitan Museum of Art, is world renowned for a wide
variety of styles and artifacts of almost everything on
this planet, but right now they are showcasing Set In
Stone: The Face in Medieval Sculpture. Now,
through February 19th, this show brings
together nearly 80 carved limestone heads and busts from
the 12th and 13th centuries.
These sculptures were symbols of iconoclasm and reliefs
that turned Gothic cathedrals and abbey churches into
Bibles of stone. They treated hair and beards with ease
in sculptures than with eyes, smiles and emotions. They
are haunting, and look like nothing else on earth. The
Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at
1000 Fifth Avenue
in Manhattan. You can go to

America’s Least Wanted, Steven Kasher
Gallery
This past week launched the exhibit Least Wanted: a
Century of American Mug Shots at the Steven Kasher
Gallery, which focuses on rare and virtually unseen mug
shots of criminals of all shapes, sizes, and ages. It
all started for Mark Michaelson when he received for his
birthday a vintage Patty Hearst wanted poster and that
jump-started his interest in crime ephemera. What is
interesting about this collection is the fact that these
are snapshots of an era, sometimes a long time ago, some
with explanations, and some with just dates. These
demonstrate situations of duress and distress and
feature over 200 unique criminals such as hookers,
grifters, goons, punks, sneaks, miscreants and are both
male and female, and from adolescent to the elderly.
These photographs are part of a collection of over
10,000 American criminal mug shots ranging from the
1880’s to 1970’s that has been gathered over the past
ten years. The Steven Kasher Gallery is located at 521
West 23rd Street in New York City. You can
call them at 212*226-1485. |
