Fashion

Garbstore

When you think of the latest fashions, you might not think that things are constructed to last, They just don’t make them like they used to… Well, now they do!  Introducing Garbstore, the second brand from former Burberry and Paul Smith design mule who also founded One True Saxon.  This mainstay of this line is their jackets which are created to look “historically new” by producing their items with vintage sewing machines, production techniques, and materials that they evoke the pos-war period in England when casual clothing became more formal.  This, being in response to the happy-go-lucky attitude they displayed during London’s bombing campaigns, show a range of jackets similar to Lettermans with lambswool to the stylish GPO mailman’s coat that proves that whether you’re a martini-swilling spy or coal-hoarding civil servant, the British are truly classy people.  For more information about this company go to http://www.hanon-shop.com/products/results/garbstore/collection/19/

I Love New york

Van Gogh At The Morgan

Presently, at The Morgan Library and Museum, they have 19 letters that Vincent Van Gogh wrote to friends and family.  Painted with Words:  Vincent Van Gogh’s Letters to Emile Bernard has personal correspondence from Van Gogh in the final years of his life.  Alongside them are the sketches and paintings they describe—drawn from a dozen museums around the world and the letters have been literally and unabashedly translated from the French.  When Van Gogh says f---ing, we say f----ing.—Curator Jennifer Tonkovich.  Also within the letters are also the pigments he planned on using on the paintings.  Sadly, he ended his life only two years later in July 1890 after shooting himself in the chest.  Did you know that he only sold one painting in his lifetime?  This exhibit will run through January 6th at The Morgan Library and Museum, which is located at 226 Madison Avenue at 36th Street.  For more information go to www.morganlibrary.org or call them at 212-685-0008.

Restaurant du Jour

Cielito Lindo Dos Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

You know those treasures as far as eating and drinking establishments that some locals only want to keep secret and not share?  Well, I’m about the blow the whistle on this place…Cielito Lindo Dos in Lighthouse Point is one of the most amazing Mexican restaurants in Southern Florida.  Owned and personally operated by the Breitman family, CLD is truly a Family Restaurant.

Cielito Lindo Dos is great on the Price-to-Quanity Ratio with heaping portions that will make you scream Doggy Bag Please!  What I did not realize and was spoiled after having it there years ago, there is a special sauce only offered by the Argentinians—Chimichurri Sauce.  This is nectar of gods as far as I am concerned and consists of:  oil, basil, garlic, and pine nuts (I think) and is pureed into a sauce and I actually dream of it.  With the meal that I ordered, I received:  a skirt steak exactly how I wanted it, rice that did not taste like Mall Chinese Food rice and had flavor, and a cheese enchilada—all for about $14.

However, another one of their specialties are their margaritas which are out of this world and Old World tasting.  I had a margarita that was made with Gran Gala (orange liqueur) and was delightful hours later.  During their Happy Hour they feature half-priced margaritas, well drinks, and domestic beers and did I forget to mention that every Wednesday Mariachis perform!

Cielito Lindo Dos is located at 4480 N Federal Highway in Lighthouse Point.  No reservations are required for most parties—but if going with 20 people, call them at 954-941-8226.  Oh, when I say that this is truly a family restaurant, if a black and curly haired woman greets and then seats you, feel free to call her Mom—I do!
