Meatloaf is Bat-less and No Where Near
Hell
Fans
of the popular singer Meatloaf will be sad to hear that
James Aday, singer of such songs as “Paradise By the
Dashboard Lights” and “I Will Do Anything For Love But I
Won’t Do That” has lost the use of the title “Bat Out of
Hell” because Jim Steinman trademarked the name in the
1990’s. Meatloaf’s upcoming album was to be called “Bat
Out of Hell
III: The Monster is Loose.” He is counter suing claiming his
name is synonymous with the title—I thought it was for
Mom’s favorite dinner. |

A
Little Bit of The King
The
Estate of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is now selling
personal artifacts and memorabilia at the famed Sotheby
Auction House on June 30th—exactly five
months after the widow, Coretta Scott King’s death.
Sadly, they have tried for years to sell these articles
to the Library of Congress and then other institutions
and were appraised at $30 million by Sotheby’s in the
late 1990’s. Among the collection are: telegrams from
Presidents and civil rights leaders, cases each
containing over 800 hand written index cards used for
sermons and speeches, collections of books with
scribbles and critiques, and the manuscript he used for
the acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize he
earned in Oslo December 10, 1964. These items were
owned by the King Estate not the
King Center. |
Time for The Gay Games
|
|
As
you may well know, the Gay Games will be held in Chicago
this July from the 15th-22nd. In
an attempt to aid whomever may go to support our people,
I will be posting weekly things of interest you may or
may not know about The Games or events going on in and
around Chicago.
Just
to let you know not to skip out before it is over,
Cindi Lauper will be the closing performer
and scheduled to perform on Saturday, July 22nd
at Wrigley Field. She will join the lineup of more than
60 music, television, arts, culture, and sports legends
from around the world. If you also happen to be going
to
New York,
she is currently on Broadway with Alan Cummings
and Ana Gasteyer in the revival of The
Threepenny Opera. |

Come
Smell
Paris
If
you happen to be in New York City and happen to be near
Macy’s Herald Square on Friday, June 16th,
come by and meet the hotel heiress at the Main Floor
Fragrance Arcade at noon. Only catch—you have to
buy her signature fragrance. After an event down in
SoBe back in March we received it in our gift bags her
male and female fragrances. It amazingly enough smells
like Armani’s Aqua di Gio with some subtle
changes. My roommate loves it; of course I can
smell it in my room when she sprays it. |

Robert G. Lang—Fashionista?

When
we are growing up, most of us look up towards our
same-sex parent as a role model for so many things. In
honor of Father’s Day this Sunday, I would like to thank
my father, Robert G. Lang for so many things, but as far
as fashion: How to Tie a Tie, the different knots, and
most important—how to put on a tuxedo. I attended my
best friend’s wedding last month and actually teared up
at the thought of putting on a tux without the help of
my father. For the first time in my life, I had to
figure out the buttons and cufflinks. I can still
remember sitting on the steps by the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier in the mid 80’s and him telling me that the wave
of the future was crew length socks—vice knee highs and
thinking he was crazy, but how many ankle socks
do I now have? Visionary. Just kidding, but that’s the
kind of hairpin guy I am. |

She IS The Talk of the Town
Beverly [Bev] McClellan and Billy, the amazing vocalists
who perform Saturdays at
New Moon
will be on hand to talk, sing, drink, and take you on a
journey. At first glance you see what Avril Lavine
sings about in “Skater Boy”—but don’t let looks fool ya—she
can sing like Melissa Etheridge. After listening
to her CD Talk of the Town, I’m a fan! Carol
from New Moon says, “…catch these guys for free while
you can, chances are they will be up on a national stage
soon!” |

US Military Uniforms on Display
Located "On the Avenue" in trendy Downtown Delray Beach,
the Atlantic Antique Mall has been a hot spot on
Atlantic Avenue since its debut Thanksgiving 2002. One
unique destination is the Military Uniform Museum and

U. S. military uniforms dating from the 1860s through
the turn of the century. The display will change three
or four times per year and will include insignias,
chevrons, epaulettes and similar memorabilia plus
American flags dating back to the "35-star" Civil War
era. There will be no charge for admission to the
