Lipstick Jungle |
|
|
With the current writers strike going on, something has been in the
works for months and is about to come to life. From the creators of Sex in
the City, we now have Lipstick Jungle. Premiering on Thursday,
February 7th on NBC, this show will showcase Brooke Shields, as a
movie exec who does everything she can to balance career and a family, Kim
Raver as an Editor in Chief of a hot fashion magazine who dreams of being
the CEO, and Lindsay Price as a free-spirited designer all of whom find
friendship in eachother. Expect high fashion, product placement, and hair for
the Gods—did I forget to mention this is sponsored by Maybelline
New York? This
definitely seems like the type of show that you will be having Jungle Parties
over and screaming with your friends. For more information about this show go
to:

Cheap, Chic, and No
Frills Hotel |
|
|
If you are looking for a
great, cheap, hip, modern, and fabulous place to stay at while in Amsterdam, I
would definitely suggest the Qbic Hotel Amsterdam WTC, Qbic Hotel Antwerp,
and Qbic Hotel Maastricht. Their rooms, ranging around 39 Euros a night,
are for the budget conscious traveler who is looking for fun, sassy, and
efficient hotel accommodations. Designed by Feran Thomassen, you get a Cubi-aluminum
clad pod with a Phillippe Starck bathroom, kitchenette, and a Hästens bed. For
those of you who do not know a Hästens bed is quite possibly the most expensive
bed ever made, coming out of Sweden and had multi-layered construction and is
made for the long haul and costing around $50,000 each. Check out these pods
at
www.qbichotels.com. |

Natasha Bedingfield |
|
|
It
seems you can’t go anywhere now or do anything without
hearing a Natasha Bedingfield song, and that’s not about
to change. She has a new album out this week, Pocket
Full of Sunshine, that is slated to be better and
bigger than her premier album, Unwritten, back in 2004
that won her so much acclaim. I have found the perfect
song and possible next Gay Anthem, I Wanna Have Your
Babies. Sadly, that’s a song that will be released
in England but not in the US because of the lyrics. Of
course, you can always count on The Art of Life
and YouTube to bring you the video! Check it out, it
will make you go Umm Umm ah Umm-Hmmm….
After
watching the video, it really makes me wonder what the
Right Wing Christians want if they want to ban abortions
and then turn around and condemn a song that promotes
procreation and someone that wants to have children.
When you make up your minds, call me.

Rebelling Against the Ordinary: Argentina’s Diana Szeinblum
Company Premiere of Alaska February 15th & 16th
Starting
Saturday, February 15th at the Byron Carlyle Theater in
Miami Beach will be Argentina’s Diana Szeinblum’s Company premiere of
Alaska. Szeinblum’s piece uses the idea of the state of Alaska represents
the way in which individuals in modern society are often isolated from one
another. In the piece, two women and two men come together and fall apart in
angular pairings and ménages simultaneously pan-erotic, veering towards violent
and coolly held-back. Clothes are pulled off and put back on again (the evening
contains brief nudity) as bodies rebel against the ordinariness and underlying
loneliness of everyday life. At one point one of the dark, handsome male
dancers, dressed in a business suit, sits alone on stage, a sign hung around his
neck: estoy desesperado….I am desperate.
Tickets are $25
for general admission, $20 for seniors over 65 and students with a valid I.D.,
or $50 for VIP tickets with priority entrance and seating. Tickets may be
purchased through Tigertail online at

Carlyle Box Office at 500 71st Street. Group sale discounted tickets and Patron

Umi Sushi
Lounge
For
those who have been following the nightlife of downtown Fort Lauderdale in the
Riverfront area, you have heard about how one party is now using Umi Lounge
on the top floor of Riverfront and is bringing new life into that area of the
complex. That restaurant is Umi, a wonderful sushi lounge that has wonderful
aesthetics as well as a fabulous menu.
As me
and my dining partner arrived, we were greeted by friendly and knowledgeable
servers and staff. I decided on the Chicken Yakatori (chicken skewer
$10) and my partner had the Beef Satay (beef skewer $12). We both tasted
each other’s but decided that our’s were the best. To each their own!
Next we
ordered a King Crab California Roll ($12) and Shrimp Tempura Roll
($14) and once again, the items we ordered were the ones we preferred. The
Shrimp Tempura had a wonderful and zesty Spicy Mayonnaise that needed no other
sauce while my dining partner had created a unique dipping sauce out of the Soy
Sauce and Wasabi paste that he loved.
I would
definitely say that if you are looking for a light and healthy meal while in
downtown Fort Lauderdale, stop by and experience for yourself Umi.

Rosie's is
Sweet Just Like Sunday
Mornin’
For about the past two
months, Wilton Manor’s very own
Rosie’s Bar and Grill has been having
Sunday Brunch and featuring some of the most amazing, “Reason to Get out of
Bed on a Sunday Morning” items you could possibly want to eat.
They
have Belgian Waffles, Pancakes, a Banana Nut Belgian Waffle that
has fresh bananas, toasted pecans, and a banana-nut butter all for only $8.50.
They also have The Fried Green Tomato: A Southern sensation-flaky biscuit
split and each half layered w/fried green tomato slice, red tomato slice, big
onion ring, fried egg, fresh avocado and topped with homemade hollandaise sauce
and served with home fries for only $9.95.
But the
Piece de Resistance would have to be, HANDS DOWN, would be the Miss Truvy'
Deep-Dish Southern-Style Not-So-French Toast ($8.50) which is (to be read in
a Southern accent) A big ol' wedge of our down-home version of French Toast,
completely Americanized and Southernized, and made in a big ol' pan, topped with
a pecan (peeeee-can) praline glaze, and baked until gold-n-bubbly. As Southern
friends of mine say, “It’ll make you smack your Granny!”
Don’t forget about desert because they also have Le Fancy Fruit Parfait
($4.95)-vanilla yogurt, fresh strawberries, blueberries, and homemade granola.
To see
what Sunday Brunch at Rosie’s looks like, check out the photo gallery from my
adventure!

melt when you order and, if you’re lucky, when he’s got a moment, he’ll dance on
the bar! When asked what is his favorite drink is to make he said, “Vodka
Cranberry” and laughed. After the laughter subsided, he came up with The
Jolly Rancher Martini.

Gay Travels in the Muslim
World
Michael T. Luongo
Gay
Travels in the Muslim World is a refreshing, well written look at gay rights and
the post 9-11 paranoia about Islamic culture. It is perfect for anyone
interested in Middle Eastern travel, politics, and gay men who travel. This
voyage travels beyond the fear and paranoia of 9-11 to truly experience the
Muslim culture.
Gay Travels journeys where
other gay travel books fear to tread--Muslim countries. This thought-provoking
book tells both Muslim and non-Muslim gay men's stories of traveling during
these difficult political times. The true and very personal tales reveal how gay
men celebrate their lives and meetings with local men. One story includes a gay
soldier's story of his tour of duty in Iraq. Insightful and sexy at times, this
intelligent book goes beyond 9-11 and the present political and cultural divides
to illustrate the real experiences of gay men in trouble zones--in an effort to
seek peace for all.
