About Georgie's Alibi
Restaurant and Nightclub |
Georgie's Alibi is Wilton
Manors' (a gay enclave
surrounded by
Fort Lauderdale) main gay
nightclub. It's always busy.
There are video monitors in
every nook and cranny (even the
restroom) and the VJs are great.
The music is mostly current Top
40 with some blockbuster Country
and oldies thrown in.
Occasionally the VJ throws
comedy clips from Mad TV,
Saturday Night Live, Will and
Grace and many other gay themed
shows onto the monitors.
The
Georgie's Alibi Restaurant
menu includes burgers, chicken
and fish sandwiches, pasta,
salads and many other dishes.
The restaurant's atmosphere is
casual and mostly outdoors on a
large covered patio with several
swings to eat in. This is casual
dining, a great place to meet
friends, have a drink, a burger
and a good time. The Miami
Herald says this about Georgie's
Alibi: "Right in the heart of
Wilton Manors, Georgie’s Alibi
is still one of the hottest
spots in town. This place is
almost always packed and there’s
usually a line. "

Georgie's Alibi Wins Best Burger
Award 2nd Year in a Row
By Brad Casey
For the
second year in a row,
Georgie's Alibi
has taken top honors in
Fort Lauderdale's
second annual Riverwalk Trust’s
Burger Battle. The Alibi beat
out the popular Capital Grille
by a half point to be crowned
the best tasting hamburger in
Broward County.
A sold
out crowd of 800 hamburger
lovers jammed private yard of
the Riverside Hotel on East Last
Olas Boulevard last Friday
night to sample hamburgers from
15 top notch eateries in Broward
County. Seven distinguished
judges including Fort Lauderdale
Mayor Jack Seiler, Chef Bill
Mitchell of Publix Apron’s
Cooking School and Chef Jack
Kane, program director of
Culinary Arts at the Art
Institute of Fort Lauderdale
were among the judges.
Restaurants that were invited to
participate included Morton’s
Steakhouse, Capital Grille,
Pelican Landing at Pier 66,
Hard Rock Café
and Big City Tavern.
Last year’s win for the Alibi
was a PR bonanza with the gay
themed bar and café serving an
estimated 250 Champ burgers a
day for several weeks after the
competition.
Alibi
General Manager Vincent Frato
said, “It’s very gratifying to
see our hard work recongnized at
such an event and doing in
back to back years says a lot
for our staff and dedication to
doing the best we can.”
Last year Alibi won the Best
Burger Battle by a unanimous
decision of the judges. |

Editors note: In a development
since this review was written
Alibi's Champ Burger has been
named
best burger in Fort Lauderdale
two years in a row
in a competition that included
national heavyweights like China
Grill and Morton's Steakhouse.
****
Almost everyone has been to the
gay landmark George’s Alibi at
least once since assimilating
into
Wilton Manors Gay Society.
With their now legendary $3 Long
Island Ice Tea specials on
Thursday nights why not? Well,
it is now time to rediscover
Alibi as a fun food place as
well with affordable eats on a
great outdoor patio.
While there, why not try one of
the more than fifteen appetizers? You
could easily share some Potato
Skins and Jalapeño Poppers
before getting a burger or deli
sandwich? I personally love the
roast beef deli carved sandwich
with provolone cheese and a
pasta salad with Italian
dressing that will make it seem
like a one-person picnic on a
plate. Most of my friends enjoy
one of the coveted swings. Sit
in one and you'll soon find
yourself sitting at a full
table. Did you know that they
have a wide variety of
sandwiches including a Croissant
one with your choice of: Tuna,
Chicken, or Shrimp Salad? What
other place also has a
full-stocked bar to have that
perfect cocktail with that
Pinwheel Rolled Sandwich? How
about a fresh draft beer with a
Club Sandwich?
Speaking of outdoor dining in
Wilton Manors (a city with
loads of patio options), did I
forget to mention the
Gay gym’s entrance (Island
City Fitness) is nearby and
brings a whole new meaning to
People Watching?
Why not
rediscover the home that you
have claimed as your own on
Thursdays as the Café you meet
your friends at anytime of the
week?
